Glycemic Index vs Glycemic Load

Glycemic index ranks carbohydrate foods by their glucose response under standardized conditions; glycemic load also considers the amount of carbohydrate in a serving.

What the evidence can tell us

Research quality depends on the population studied, preparation, dose, duration and outcome measured. A finding for one extract or dose does not prove that every supplement using the same ingredient has the same effect.

Where supplements fit

Food patterns, physical activity, sleep, prescribed care and medical monitoring can all matter to glucose health. Supplements should be evaluated as supplements—not as replacements for appropriate medical care.
